About this blog

The name of this blog is small alley. As in an alley, I hope to post a variety of things that I find interesting and as you walk through the alley, you would find things that you like.

I have posted some songs that I wrote. I am not a great singer. I sing and play the guitar purely for fun and I hope people who thinks they can't sing can be inspired by me. No former singing lessons and no former guitar training. Just pure fun......

The recording is also done at home with a drum machine and one guitar through a small amp. The sound file has been touched up slightly by removing the noise. Otherwise the songs are as original as it gets.

I practise Taiji regularly. For me, it is a great exercise requiring control of mind and body to perform well and for it to be enjoyable. You can get more videos of Taiji from YouTube.

Other posts include places and events that I think are interesting and more important, which I have time to upload.

Enjoy your walk through this small alley.....

Trip to Hong Kong on 1st Dec 2015

My wife and I toured Macau and Hong Kong in Dec 2015.  This time, I tried video recording the trip instead of photographing.  The video is done using Andriod app VivaVideo Pro.  It is done without any storyboard and so is amateurish.  Hey, the intention is just to capture some memories and hopefully can provide some information on Hong Kong.

Story of a Priest

This song is specially composed for the oldest priest in Singapore.  The true story of his life can hardly be expressed by these few words but I hope it can tell a bit of the faithfulness he showed towards his vocation.

Trip to Penang, Sep 2015

This is my 2nd trip to Penang.  The first was many, many, many years ago.  We flew by budget air from Singapore which took just an hour to reach Penang airport.  Taking the white taxi in was a pleasant experience with the driver telling us his life story.

We stayed in Noordin Street Hotel - converted from an old house.  The staff were helpful and the hotel is really quaint.

Practising 42-steps Yang Taiji in France

Pilgrimage to France - in the footsteps of St Louise Marie de Monfort

On 30th May 2015 till 12 Jun 2015, my wife and I went on a pilgrimage in France with some Monfort brothers and those working in the various Monfortian schools.

I'll not say much about St Louise Marie de Monfort as you can search for information about him from the Internet.  What I'll show here are some photos and what is my takeaway.

To me, St Louise Marie de Monfort showed what is essential to be a Saint - make personal choice to be faithful to the baptismal promise in one's daily life.  There will be difficulties and challenges in life but by making up one's mind to be faithful (which only human can), one shows forth the glory of God in one's humanity.

Being a saint is to be truly human - simple but not easy.

The Brothers of Monfort and the Sisters of Daughters of Wisdom were really wonderful hosts.  We also want to thank Fr. Raja who came down from Rome to be the Spiritual Director of the pilgrimage.
